Waves of Happiness: Uncovering the Secret to a Fulfilled Life

Karyn Seitz-

What does it take to be happy? Find out what makes people truly happy, the one simple secret that will change your life in this episode.

Ep. 83

Karyn Seitz searched for years for answers, trying to find herself and her happiness. She hid behind her addictions and felt her life slipping away. Even from a young age.

As she started discovering a new way of living, Karyn had created the image that she had it all together, yet deep down she knew she was lost and desperate to discover who she really was.

Even though she searched diligently, she realized she was looking in all the wrong places.

Then one day she had an awakening. She found out why she was unhappy and what the real  problem was in her life …

Karyn joins me today to explain what she experienced and how this realization brought her to find her new awareness. How it led her to become “The Happiness Mentor” and now empowers others to find their own path to happiness.

“I looked different on the outside. On the inside, I was still very insecure, still very much in self doubt, negative self talk, not feeling good about myself. Doubting myself, questioning myself, all symptoms of being unhappy. I could see my choices. I could see the things I was doing that I knew better than that. I knew the difference between right and wrong. I wanted somebody, I was craving somebody to wake me up and say it’s you.”

Show Notes:

Karyn starts by explaining that we’ve got happiness all wrong. We believe it’s a feeling, an emotion; however, she defines happiness as a state of being, meaning ‘I only want me and the life I have’. Unhappiness is wanting what you don’t have.

Diving into her journey leading her to become the happiness mentor, Karyn speaks to her drug addiction starting at 12 years old and progressing through her early 20s. Therapy limited her to blaming outside factors, so spirituality and self-help became her new ‘drug’. Karyn craved someone telling her she was the problem instead of wanting an outside savior.

Karyn believes we have two different paths or choices, and we have to consciously choose between staying focused on events causing turmoil or staying neutral. Hardships are always going to be there, so it’s how we respond to those challenges that make a difference.

Lorie asks how we begin our journey in finding happiness within ourselves. Karyn recommends four perspectives: know that you are unhappy, you have to want to be happy, you know happiness is not a feeling to chase, and to do and be the best you can in every endeavor in your life.

Within closing words, Karyn mentions how within the pyramid of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is self-actualization to become the best version of yourself. She touches on how everyone has the capacity to be happy.

Take time out for yourself.

It’s easy to become so busy with work, family, friends, and other obligations that we forget to take care of ourselves. This leads to stress, anxiety, and even depression. Make sure you carve out time each day to relax and unwind.

Don’t compare yourself to others.

We’re all different, and no two people will ever be exactly alike. So why do we compare ourselves to others? Because we think that if we aren’t as good as them, then we must not be doing anything right. However, comparing yourself to others only makes you feel worse about yourself. Instead, focus on what you’ve accomplished and how far you’ve come.

Focus on what’s important.

If you want to be happy, you need to stop focusing on other people and start focusing on yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities of life, but when you take the time to really think about what matters to you, you’ll find that there’s plenty to keep you busy.

More about Karyn:

Behind my façade of having it all together, I was crumbling. Secretly, I lacked any confidence in myself and how my life was unfolding. I was lost and desperate to figure myself out.

I invested a lot of time and money seeking answers but never felt any permanent change. I was doing everything – therapy, self-help books, yoga, meditation, healers, eating clean, working out, detox diets, retreats – and I still didn’t feel good about myself or my life. The truth is, I was searching for myself in all the wrong places.

Then I had an awakening…

I had a profound realization that I was the problem in my life.

With this new awareness, I let go of trying to find myself “out there” and unlocked the key to a simple, straightforward path to happiness and inner fulfillment. Now I empower others to have the same inner awakening so they can be happy and fulfilled in their lives.

My greatest strengths as a teacher and mentor are my vulnerability and integrity in what I teach. I’m committed to living what I teach and being a true teacher.

My Unique Message to Listeners:

For every problem you’ve been trying to solve in your life, the answer you’ve been searching for is you. Nothing in your life holds any bearing over your ability to be happy and fulfilled – not your past, upbringing, marriage or current relationship status, kids or no kids, career, or anything else.

You are in control of yourself and your happiness regardless of the circumstances in your life.

As a former spiritual healer, Karyn realized her clients were not getting better. She was frustrated that she could not deliver the results her clients wanted even though she was trying lots of different healing modalities and coaching techniques.

Karyn knew she also wasn’t getting the changes she wanted in her life. She secretly lacked any confidence in her ability to change. Her adult life had stalled.

In a fresh new search for answers, Karyn found the missing piece that would ultimately transform her life and her clients. There is something very profound in owning that she is the problem in her life. This awareness pushed her to confront herself and get serious about herself and her life.

Karyn is now fulfilled in her life and teaches others the same journey she has taken to find herself and be happy.

Karyn calls herself The Happiness Mentor and teaches an online happiness course for women called Awakened Grace.
