Avoiding the Breakwall: Saving our Relationships

Branch Isole-

In this week’s episode, and in honor of Valentine’s Day, we get into relationships and how to work through the turbulent times to avoid a catastrophe. Learning ways to find calm water and peace in your life.

Going through any significant health or life event challenges even the best of us. There are times we are pushed so far that something has to give. In the process of dealing with life, our relationships can be damaged, sometimes beyond repair. The weight can be enough that it causes our ship to sink from all the extra baggage.

So what do you do? How do you move forward once you find yourself in this situation?

Branch Isole, my guest, gives us some direction to avoid the breakwall when it comes to our relationships. He is an author, poet and storyteller of many meaningful books dealing with the issues and emotions that we all go through but have difficulty addressing. He is a wealth of knowledge and shares his insight to the stumbling blocks of relationships and how to repair or retreat from those bonds.

We all have choices in life. Will your choices keep you stuck in the same loop of behavior and people in your life or open your eyes to the potential for growth and healing yourself? It’s up to you. The possibilities are endless.

In my conversation with Branch today, we will dig into

  • Understanding the three levels of relationships
  • 7 Step Process of Relationship Repair

“We need to quell the emotional power and then we need to have that opportunity to work on ourselves and find out who we really are and what we really want. What we want in that relationship. What worked well for us and what didn’t work so well for us. It’s all about growth. You know the whole reason we’re here is to continue to grow as people so that we can become better people so that the relationships we are in become better and more healthy relationships.”

I think Branch gives us so much to think about. We learn a deeper understanding of the power of relationships and perhaps a new perspective of the importance of the connections we make in life. We have a choice to make when it comes to our relationships. I think we all have had that relationship that pushed us in the wrong direction. Made us question who we are. Wonder if this is the best it will be.  The conflict can be consuming. Influence of outside forces can be distracting. The weight can be enough that it causes our ship to sink… from all the extra baggage

With every experience or lesson in life, we  grow as individuals. We have the power to make our lives what we want…by making the decision to be our best selves.

The power of personal responsibility, or its avoidance, is his writing focus.

His stories explore concepts and actions of struggle and relationship dynamics across a broad spectrum. Branch writes of issues and emotions often experienced, but not always voiced.

If you are feeling something’s not quite right with someone in your life, with a friend, co-worker, etc., avoid the breakwall and save your relationship.

Here are the 7 steps Branch shares to repair any relationship you have:

1. Recognize that harm has been done

2. Take responsibility for your part in the action

3. Have regret that the action took place

4. Have remorse for that action

5. Form some redress…something to make the action understood

6. No Repetition…action cannot be repeated in the future

7. Repent…change your response. Your new action is going to be different
