Sail On: Finding Freedom Through Forgiveness and Letting Go

Meagan O’Nan –

Do you know the impact that harboring feelings of anger and resentment can have on your well being? When you get too caught up in your life, you may not take time to consider how these negative emotions are affecting you. Choosing to forgive and find courage within yourself has the power to create a sense of balance for your body, mind, and soul.

Question…Do you feel at peace with yourself? If not, it could be time to change things up.

Ep. 105

Feeling lost, hurt and hitting rock bottom changed the course for Meagan O’Nan’s life.

This vulnerable storyteller recounts her experience of taking control of her life and finding inner peace. Meagan had to learn how to face her fears and developed a confidence to embrace her truth. In order to truly heal, she also had to learn how to deal with people who had hurt her in the past.

She is the author of the award-winning book, “Creating Your Heaven on Earth,” and “Courage: Agreeing to Disagree Is Not Enough.” Her third book “Held and Free” was just released.  Meagan is also a member of the Forbes Coaches Council where she produces regular content for Forbes.com. Her approach is unique in that she uses storytelling as a way to overcome differences and generate healing. For the last decade, she has been a significant voice for the LGBTQ community in Mississippi, speaking with pastors, university representatives and classes, on the radio, and on the news as a voice offering unity and cooperation.

So, everything was centered around forgiveness. Forgiveness of myself for not being okay with who I was, forgiveness in experiences with other people by just voicing my pain and what I went through, and people reciprocating that with openness. And, you know, the whole approach was just to be empowered and to face my fears. And it’s just, it’s been a beautiful unfolding. It’s been hard, but it’s been a beautiful unfolding in the end.

Forgiveness is important in coping with difficult situations. It helps to let go of painful emotions, forgive those who have wronged us, and connect to others with more compassion. Meagan’s journey through those tough times eventually led her to accept her reality, face her fears, and move forward with strength and clarity.

Meagan shared her perspective on spirituality and what it meant for her – to just be in touch with her heart and make decisions from there. Having the courage to continue to grow and learn through journaling and writing her story has allowed her to process her experience and find her inner peace.

I really appreciated Meagan’s vulnerability today in our conversation. She definitely treasures her daughter and she is blessed to have such a beautiful family.

How does Meagan Sail Through Life?

Her words of advice…

Accept things as they are, cry when you need to, and laugh as much as you can.

FORGIVENESS

3 Reasons to Forgive:

  1. Forgiving can release negative emotions such as anger and resentment, which can be harmful to our mental and physical health.
  2. Forgiving allows us to move on from the past and focus on the present and future.
  3. Forgiving can improve relationships with others by promoting empathy, understanding, and trust.

To practice forgiveness, start by acknowledging the hurt or wrongdoing that was done to you. Allow yourself to feel your emotions and process them in a healthy way. Try to understand the perspective of the person who wronged you and practice empathy. Then, make a conscious decision to forgive them and let go of any resentment or anger towards them. Remember that forgiveness is a process and may take time, but it can bring peace and healing to you both.
