While difficulties come along with life, remind yourself of how strong you have been in the past and that you have the capacity to make it through. Embrace the hardships you encounter, for overcoming these will bring about new strength and more compassion.
The last few episodes of the year are always bittersweet for me. Remembering where the year started, the intentions that were set, the plans that were made. and how that played out -some of them were hits, others not even close.
That brings me to today’s conversation.
When we find ourselves missing the mark so to speak, we have a tendency to be disappointed and sometimes we feel it is rightfully so especially if you’ve been through something that has pushed you to your limits.
You decide you need a change, you need a different focus. Yet, somehow, you end up in the what feels like in the same spot or worse.
I started the year with some really big plans and I got knocked down a few pegs along the way. Everything is okay… Now.
At the time it was devastating. I’ve been challenged more times this year than i would have ever imagined and I felt the impact more this year. The important thing to mention is I’ve also grown! I’ve gone deep inside and re-evaluated. I started putting myself first. Regardless of what was going on around me, I was making those steps forward. And I am so glad I did.
Through that growth I found a new strength. Just like winter brings the end of a season, the end of the green lush life that we see in front of us, it also brings a dormancy.
It’s a time to go within and really connect with ourselves.
In that dormancy, in that quiet time we can find little seeds that in the spring will grow. We need to honor this phase and experience. In this darkness of winter…longer nights and shorter days…we find time for reflection and for release.
Letting go of what doesn’t serve you anymore. Being hopeful for what’s in front of you. And enjoying the moment you’re in at this very time.
This is an emotional time of year for many people And for many reasons. whether it’s grieving the loss of someone dear to you or seeing family that you been distant from. It’s connecting with new people and making new friends. It’s deepening the love you have for those around you.
Strength and compassion can often go hand-in-hand. Being mindful of your own strength combined with developing a sense of kindness and understanding toward yourself can lead to a resilient inner self. While difficulties come along with life, reminding yourself of how strong you have been in the past and that you have the capacity to make it through can help pull yourself up in trying times.
So I want to remind you. That you are okay right where you are, even in this time of darkness there will be light again. It is temporary. Have compassion for yourself, what you have endured and for those around you.
